To your second footnote, perhaps Trump voters who claimed that democracy was their main priority were saying that they wanted to get rid of it. I mean, democracy is hard work, right? Who can be bothered, right? And tyranny is so much easier. Until, soon enough, you are subjected to it. Or perhaps they believe they’ll be safe and somehow able to continue to enjoy the benefits of democracy - but they want tyranny for others? Either way, a very rude awakening is coming for so many of them.
