I started the women’s track program at Indiana University in 1978 and confronted misogyny for really the first time! I was told by the athletic director that my team would never have the schedule that the men’s team did. Two years later, my women’s team goes to the National Indoor Track Championships at the University of Missouri and scores 14 points to finish 13th in the nation! The men’s track team goes to their National Indoor Championships in Detroit and score 1 point! Who had the better team? The next president of the USA will be Kamala Harris and I was proud to vote for her!!!

Thank you for this article. I’ve been having difficulty articulating to people why the polling isn’t reflecting reality on the ground and this has captured everything I’ve wanted to say. I live in MI’s Upper Peninsula and have road-tripped throughout the most rural parts of MI and northern WI this election cycle and you do not feel the support for Trump that you did in 2016. There are no hidden Trump supporters up here. They have been out in the open for years now. They are just more far and few between. Less signs. Less energy. People are just exhausted by it all.

I live in a fairly red county in the LP close to the border and seeing almost no Harris signs compared to Trump signs. I agree that there are technically less Trump signs than 2020, but I'm not sure that means any of them are jumping to Harris. It's possibly a case of "I'm not proud of it, but fine, Trump because Grocery Bill."

I think he is. I'm involved with another substack that is mentioned in this article: Simon Rosenberg's The Hopium Chronicles. Most of us are doing various types of activism/campaign work. I can tell you from the anecdotes I'm hearing from my fellow subscribers, both from door knocking & phone banking, there is palpable energy, enthusiasm & all around motivation for Harris. Harris as a candidate - is running the best campaign anybody could in her situation. When it comes to consuming legacy media (doom- themed clickbait and all) I will impart a bit of advice to you I frequently post in the Hopium chats: NEVER let the bastards wear you down!!! I believe we got this 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

This is great journalism. Thank you for putting out consistently *new* pieces that don’t just follow whatever 2 week trend is dominating the headlines. This is also a great crash course in the fundamentals of how a coalition is built, which is how elections are won.

From someone who has done plenty of survey work, fantastic article, Jason. Polling is certainly broken…hope you are right that Harris gets the win.

I just want to comment also that “college educated” doesn’t necessarily mean the same

Thing class wise that it used to either. Speaking about all the middle and working class non profit admins and public school teachers vs plumbing and electrical contractors for example.

The media esp still likes to paint the education divide as bougie rich intellectuals vs long suffering salt of the earth types. But it can also be a third grade teacher paying back her thousands in student loans in a studio apt vs a guy who inherited his dad’s plumbing company and pulls six figures.

Thank you, Jason! I've seen others write about the Republicans gaming the system when it comes to polls, and a few other bits of information that align with your argument. But I appreciate your POV about Kamala's smart campaign strategy and her coalition building skills. Yours is a fantastic take on what's really happening here.

You have written out with clarity and references what I have been trying to tell people for weeks. I think most people with a conscience and a set of eyes can't help but feel anxious; MAGA is small but loud, and loud crassness and cruelty and daily awfulness will make anyone's stomach hurt. So I'm saving this to read again (and again) as Election Day draws nigh. Thank you.

I have avidly consumed so much Substack and YouTube as the garrotting fear of what might prevail on November 5th tears my wits to pieces. And I live in the UK. I can’t begin to imagine what it must feel like over there.

This article has been the only one that has served to loosen the terrifying grip. Brilliantly written and - even if a towering edifice should bloom into view directly outside the cockpit - it will make this last week all the easier to bear.

What you say here makes lots of sense (and I hope you're right), but Bill Clinton did carry Arkansas in 1996, and by quite a bit.
