I'm an old fart and have been thru cycles of hate/moderation, econ up/ econ down, etc. My take is that changing humans is a long term process and complex. I had a discussion with my younger stepson who thinks peeps don't change. I explained that it really depends on one's perspection. IMO, he hasns't been on the planet long enough to see the changes that I have. Remember when every living adult smoked? Recall when kids were not required to be immunized? Cars didn't have seat belts and later on, air bags, crush bumpers and other safety devices? Cars got pathetic mileage and we used leaded gas? On the social side-- remember white/black water fountains, waiting areas, not allowed in restaurants, hotels, etc.? lynchings? segregated housing, schools, etc.?
My point is that change can happen IF the majority of society will comply AND if the f/king politicians make major changes in laws. Government policy and social programs can make a huge difference.
Although LBJ will forever be scorned for the debacle in Viet Nam, just imagine if he had not pushed thru civil rights legislation, public accommodation, right to vote, and other laws? Huge changes have taken place in the past 100 years. It takes time-- decades and maybe with somethings 50-100 years, but change is possible IF we keep pushing, showing up to vote supporting leaders who take a progressive (in the general sense) stance. Currently, the NRA has a grasp on too much male anatomy. IF the various organizations make and keep the public aware of the consequence of this, and that more guns are the solution.
A fucking men.
It hit. I’m pretty sure I’m not and just super tired from all of it all of the time. Thanks for the read.
